Brainstorming

This is a mid map of my idea of Rebellion which i made after choosing the most apealing option from the  3 brainstroming options

These are the 3 brainstroming tips which i used to help me get an idea.

Introduction

A Poster for rebbellion. I thought it was good because not to long there was a few roits caused by rebellion which gave me a few idea on what the movie could be about and what the poster could possible look lik. The Idea of rebellion was easy to relate to since im young aswelland rebeling is what most teenagers do anyway so it was quite easy to do a final piece about it sinc the media was all about the roits and rebellion in london so this was how I got to my final piece from recent events and having my own insights on rebellion and rebelling.
This piece has been influeced by C215 an artist/ designer. I chose the artist because i can relate to him and is quite influencial on my piece of work. since graffiti is quite a big part on youth rebelling and rebellion as a whole. I have gained quite alot from reviewing this artist like stenciling, to make clean clear graffiti. and how much and how little detail can go into and still have a decent piece of work and still make it look really good.
I have done graffiti exprimentation with ABOVEs’ style of graffiti where its only old buliding or old structures. I couldn’t take any risk since there arent many old structures to put my work on and it’s illegal to do graffiti so i wasnt able to take risks. This developed my idea to use my graffit and then put it on to a old struture  and make it look i actually did it on the structure. The only limitation was that i cannot go out a graffiti since its illegal.
The part i needed to refine were the first drafts even though they are drafts i didnt like them completely so i changed a few things to make it more simple like some of the more famous film poster, because i didnt like the idea because it was crammed with unnecessary images which made it look less professional. I took all the unnecessary bits and added a few thing which i believed made it look alot more professional and make it seem like it wasnt done by a student and by a professional.
My final piece links to the other work i have been studing and looking at is that the actors are graffiti siloettes and they have small but defined detail so you can clearly tell they are actors, The making of the stencils went really well because i have done it before so i had some insight on how its done and what needs to be done so it look really good and will easy to work with in photoshop. Making a background for the poster was quite hard since the background could be anything realting to the motive / genre of the film so it was quite hard but i stayed with the grimey nitty gritty feel and stuck with it . The only thing i would change would be making the actors not silloettes and make them individual graffiti characters instead of the being a group. I am very pleased with the work I made.

Conventions of the form.

One of the conventions are to have the name of the main actor(s) on the top of the poster. Depending on the size of the font on the top the title of the film will be in the middle or the bottom. They normally have a tagline aswell.

There are credits at the bottom of each film poster it has the names of all the companies and actors that help and played a big role in the film.

They also normally have the face of the talent on the front of the poster so that it appeals to the intended target audience and the date in the credits of when the film will be realeased is also quite important to include.

Case study

The colour scheme of the poster is very important with the black, white and red because its all about when there was still a racial divide and blood(red) is what they had it common.

The structure of this movie poster is the same as the average size of a movie poster.
The talent(cover models) are Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe two academy award winners, both actors are not looking at the audience because their eyes arent being shown but they are looking at each other this is a modern day technique to show tension.

The title of the film is in white faded with a little black and there is a splatter of blood going across it which goes on the title a little. This too is used to show even more tension and give a small insight on the film.

case study write up

I'm looking at a poster for the film  Kidulthood. It has the feeling of an action/thriller film. It seems to have essence of  uk film. the title is a play on words which is young adults and in stead of adulthood its Kidulthood, which is what the life of a london young adults life is like. The title is a great description of the film because that is exactly what it is all about. It sums up what the film is about in one word. The film is about what life is about in london as a young adult in an average week. Its around a 2 groups, a group of 3 guys and another about 2 girls, and the film about one week in thier shoes, when the go to school and when they go out.
The over arching themes would be be youths wearing hoods and breaking the law, drugs and alcohol would be another because its a big part of the film, and bullying is another big part in the film
There are links to similar work, like skank, bullet boy, sket, anuvahood and  human traffic. The drinking, doing drugs and partying are all inspired by human traffic and the violence of gritty ness is inspired by the other UK film(skank, bullet boy and sket). There is also a little comedy which anuvahood inspired mainly.
there isn't much of a narrotive to the film but there is the key factor that you only live once so do as much as you can while you before your time is up cause you never know whats around the corner. Th work does follow the conventions of a movie poster such as, have a tagline,  talent, credits and release date. It keeps with all the other themes of movie posters.
The colour pallette for the poster would be dark gloomy colours such as greys and blacks. The colour that dominates is black, the texture/feeling of the poster is nitty gritty and gloomy.  Space and depth has not been represented in this poster.
The work does hold together throughtout well with the theme of rebellion. The artist/designer chose these colour and background because it was best suited for what was needed to be represented. It is controlled as you can see. There is no evidence of it being handrawn. It has been designed and not just left to chance.
The process techniques used were photoshop. It started from being pictures which were put in to photoshop to add them together and to finish all the development stages such as rendeering colours and making it look flawless and to add the key factors of a movie poster like the credits and taglines. The designer must have a great understanding of using photoshop so it can be produced without any legal issues or copyright so everything looks professional. There are some key feature that give away that some bits have been photoshoped.
The distintive feature of the poster are the young adults and the images used for the work. Ithink that colour schemes was well though out and the images portray the right message the first thing that caught my attention was the young adults because they looked around my age so i found that appealing. The poster make me want to see the film. It also appeals to me because its made with the majority of the actors are young adults and a week in thier shoes.

Experiments

I reduced the clutter on the poster and add a few more things like the names of the talent and a Tagline and changed the font and colour but it wasn't give the right feel it seem more like a musical with the varsity typeface instead of the nitty gritty feel i was going for.
I was told that it look too crowded for a movie poster because i tried to all my ideas in one poster so i reduced the amount of posters on my poster to 2 posters and i also added my companies logo to the bottom of the credits
I Have now added a few posters from the film like the rebels logo and the fist which are used to let people know they are here/ have been there and are recruiting as well.
This is an idea of what i would like my poster to look like with the black silhouettes to make them anonymous since they are rebells and the need to keep they're identities hidden.
This is an expreiment for more of a promotion poster towards the clothing brand. Its like and advert which will have a place on a poster, but it is a bit to colourful for my poster so it will have to be by its self on its own poster.

Development/ Experiments with Posters

I have made a poster for people to buy and be able to pin up in the bedrooms, living rooms, exhibits and anywhere else poster are put up
This is an alternative poster which has the title "Rebel" instead of the description with the same iconic image on the other poster.
This is another poster which is similar to the opening sequence to the film when they are sowing london and showing how its change and gone down hill and in some place that sign is there. So its a iconic poster.
This is an alternative of the poster below which has the same background with just a different layout with the masthead in a different colour and a bigger tagline

I used the logos of other designers who used the logo/ clothing brand in the film since it was a big part of it.

Final Drafts.

I added two guys on the side of the guy in the middle to give it more of a macho feel, but it wasn't give the right feel it seem more like a musical with the varsity typeface instead of the nitty gritty feel i was going for.
I reduced the clutter on the poster and add a few more things like the names of the talent and a Tagline and changed the font and colour.

Final Piece

This is the poster that will be in cinemas everywhere to advertise the movie.

This poster is to be put up for advertising use aswell as decorational use which could be put in a cinema months before so people know its an up coming film and also be sold for decorating living areas eg bedrooms.

This like the one above servers the same purpose and use for the same use.
